Teacher Misconduct Statement

Dear Northridge Families,

It saddens me to inform you that Mrs. Grow, one of our high school English teachers, has been charged with sexual battery because of an inappropriate relationship with a former student.  This type of behavior has no place in education and certainly is not tolerated here at Northridge Local Schools. We care about our students and their safety is our top priority.

The district has cooperated and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement in every way possible to see that justice is done.  Because of the ongoing criminal matter and student privacy rights under state and federal law, we cannot go into further details at this time.  However, we want to assure you that the district has already taken the following steps:

  • Cooperated in full with the Licking County Sheriff’s Office during its investigation;

  • Placed the teacher on leave until the proper steps for her termination can be put in place;

  • Prohibited the teacher from entering school grounds or having any contact with any students or staff members;

  • Revoked the teacher’s email  and building access; and,

  • Filed a report with the Ohio Department of Education’s Office of Professional Conduct.

While the available information indicates that this is an isolated incident, we are encouraging anyone with any information related to this or other possible incidents to contact the Licking County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (740) 670-5555.

We are proud of our culture of See Something, Say Something and we encourage participation in our Stay Safe, Speak Up Student Hotline.  In addition, we have counselors available for any students that may be in need of support at this time.

This is an unfortunate incident that is outraging to us all.  Yet it is not indicative of a Northridge Local Schools education or our core of teachers. We have caring staff members who go the extra mile for our students on a daily basis.  We are making progress on our academic achievements and we remain focused on providing a good quality of education at a good value to residents.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly at sschmidt@northridgevikings.org

Sincerely,

Scott Schmidt

Superintendent
