Teaching is my passion, and it’s my joy to see children grow as learners. I hope to make each student an active learner and get him or her involved in an interactive way. I am fortunate to have a SMARTboard to help making learning fun and interactive. Also, I love to teach using songs and motions. The year will be filled with many exciting experiences (including readers' theaters, learning Latin and Greek roots, fun science experiments on soil and later on forms of matter, writers' workshop and lots more).
To let you know a little bit about myself, I was born and raised on a farm in Fredericktown, Ohio. When I was thirteen, my family and I moved to Haiti to run a guesthouse for missionaries and work teams. (My parents still live in Haiti, and I consider Haiti my home.) Upon high school graduation, I returned to Ohio to attend Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. I graduated from college in May of 2005. I earned my master’s degree in Reading and Literacy from Walden University in July of 2010. I have been teaching at Northridge since January of 2006. I currently live in Mt. Vernon..
I love to travel! In fact, since October of 2010, I’ve spent time in Cape Town, South Africa, Chiang Mai, Thailand, Zimbabwe, and Haiti. It’s exciting for me to see various cultures around the world! Because of these life experiences, I strive to broaden my students’ world perspective and seek to introduce them to new places whenever the opportunity arises.
I truly feel that parents and teachers need to collaborate to benefit their child’s education. I encourage you to be actively involved in your child’s schooling. Ask your child what he or she learned at school each day. Praise them when they succeed and cheer them on when they struggle. Read to your child regularly or have them read to you.Encourage your child to be proud of his/her work.
